RTMP optimal / recomended encoder settings

matt Apr 18, 2017 06:42PM EDT

What are the optimal encoder settings for CW server? I use wirecast 7.5 with decklink capture cards with hdmi 1080 30p cameras.

I did a test stream with these setting and it looked good on my browser, but it got an error message with my phone "error loading media: file could not be played"

x264 encoder
1920x1080 30 fps
average bit rate 8000 kbps (my max upload speed is 12000 kbps)
quality: 3
does the encoder make use of command lines "--bframes 2"?
profile: high
keyframes: every 60 frames
channels: stereo
target bit rate: 256 kbps
sample rate 44.1khz

Does the server "re-encode" for different devices and for hardware or bandwidth limitations when watching? I did not see any options to change quality while watching a browser or phone.

how does a RTMP stream end? is it stopping the encoder or closing the "Broadcaster browser" or both? I did not see a "end/ stop button" button.

Hi Matt,

We do transcode for mobile from our built in broadcaster but when using rtmp, you’ll have to
Make sure you are sending it in h264 or it won’t work on mobile devices.
