audio is harsh

Bill Morris Jan 15, 2017 09:28PM EST

Win10 PC, Chrome browser; upload speed 5.9mbps.

The audio on the broadcast is harsh, as if the signal is coming in too hot. I'm using the line in on my PC, and when I record using Reaper (digital audio workstation like ProTools or Sonar) the sound is crystal clear. It's only when I try to send audio online that the sound gets mildly buzzy and harsh. In the broadcast test, the audio meter shows I'm well below the peak; Windows audio "line in" is set at 70; on my mixer, the signal peaks at about -3db. Even if I take the levels down to well below what I would broadcast at, the sound isn't good. Is there something I can do to address this, or is it just a function of the internet I need to get used to?

Hi Bill,

Not sure what the issue is. It may have to do with how the signal is transcoded for the live stream. Are you using the built in broadcaster or 3rd party streaming software via RTMP?

Using the built in broadcaster. (I tried OBS, but the lag was unacceptable.) If it helps diagnose anything, Facebook does the same thing.

Hi Bill,

If Facebook live give you the same result, it make just have to do with how streaming audio sounds. Not much we can do about that at this point, but it is always improving.
