RTMP Streaming

Jeff Apr 12, 2016 07:29AM EDT

I'm trying to stream via nginx and wanted to know if there's an example of the proper format of constructing the rtmp URL to push the stream to Concert Window.

I suspect the main difficulty we're having is how the username/password info is supposed to be appended.

hi, I haven’t heard of anyone streaming with nginx so I’m not sure if it will work with Concert Window. If you’d like to stream with RTMP, try Open Broadcaster Software, which definitely works. Flash Media Live Encoder is also good.

Otherwise, the “RTMP URL” is the Flash media server and “RTMP Stream Name” is the name of the stream. There’s no password.

The password I was referring to is the one that is in the RTMP stream name.

Open Broadcaster works fine, nginx allows RTMP streaming to two places simultaneously and works ok with some other sites like YouTube.

My question is how a RTMP URL should be formatted. Would this format be correct for connecting to Concert Window to publish a stream:

hi, yes that looks like the correct RTMP URL format, probably without the “;” at the end — just copy/paste whatever it shows in your Concert Window broadcaster under RTMP tab.

The above question is quite important to me and will determine whether I can use Concert Window at all. I need to be able to reach mobile users and CW does not seem to do that at all. Therefore I am using the above mentioned nginx on a Windows system.

I am sending an rtmp stream from Open Broadcaster and/or Switcher Studio Pro TO nginx which sends the rtmp stream on to up to 32 additional rtmp servers. We are only trying to reach 2 servers YouTubeLive and CW. nginx uses a text file to configure it which I would be happy to pass on to you.

Jeff and I are working together on this problem.

hi Peter – CW serves a mobile optimized stream to any mobile user watching a show. That happens automatically. So if you send a stream to Concert Window via RTMP, that will all work fine. It appears that the problem is because the stream is passing through nginx. Try using Wirecast instead; you can send to two destinations simultaneously and that has worked for people in the past.
