HDMI Camera connections

Dave Quanbury Feb 09, 2016 02:09PM EST

Hi there,
I am hoping to broadcast in HD and I have a laptop with a thunderbolt port as well as an HDMI to thunderbolt cable. Would this function as an interface, or do I still need to purchase something like the iRig pro?

thanks
Dave

hi Dave, I think you would need a capture card like the Blackmagic Intensity series. The HDMI would go into the capture card, which would then go into the computer via thunderbolt. Those capture cards also take audio inputs (board feed, etc).

I got a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Recorder. Flash sees the device as 1080i/59.94. But does not display anything once it selected.

Any ideas?

hi Martin, are you using Flash Media Live Encoder to stream?
As far as I know, a Mini Recorder won’t work for capturing live video for streaming. You would need an Intensity capture card (also from Blackmagic). But I could be wrong, hopefully!

The Black Magic literature and some practitioners indicated the Mini Recorder to Thunderbolt should work. It is really a pass video converter and pass through. It sometimes works with the Black Magic video capture application (Media Express), but not always. I was reluctant to purchase the Intensity product as it was expensive, interface overkill, and the reviews were only fair.

I am running Chrome 50.0.2661.102 or Safari on a Macbook Pro Retina running OS X 10.11.4, the latest Chrome and the latest flash (21pp for Chrome and 21a for Safari 9.1 (11601.5.17.1)).

hi Martin, to encode the stream (and recognize the Blackmagic input, assuming that’s possible with the Mini Recorder) you would need to use Flash Media Live Encoder or Open Broadcaster Software to broadcast (both free). You would be using RTMP to send your stream up to Concert Window.
